Q.
I am incredibly disorganized. Is there hope for me?
A. Absolutely! In fact, I have many clients who are chronically disorganized (in layman's terms - packrats/hoarders/hopelessly cluttered/etc.). If you WANT to get organized, you can do it!
Q.
Can we get my husband/wife/other family member organized?
A. Again, if they WANT to get organized, then the answer is a resounding YES! However, they may like things just the way they are. They may find it difficult to change their habits or their environment. If they are ready for a change, but just don't know how, then I can help.
Q.
What can I expect with a professional organizer?
A. The process will begin with an initial needs assessment to identify your organizing needs. Once I arrive we will take a tour of your home or office to see what areas need attention. We will begin having a lot of conversation to identify what is important to your life, what is currently working for you and what isn't. During the conversation we will get a feel for your individual personality and natural habits. We will begin the sorting process during this time, followed by other steps to completion. The organization process may take more than one appointment.
Q.
Do I need to be there?
A. Most of the time, yes. During the first visit it is very important for you to be there to discuss your project. Depending on the project, sometimes your involvement can be minimal after the initial discussions. However, if time permits I encourage you to be involved through the entire project.
Q.
What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
A. Not much. As a matter of fact, please do not try to clean up or hide things in drawers before I get there! I need to see what you are dealing with on a daily basis so that we can figure out what is causing the disorganization. Otherwise, just make yourself available with few distractions. If you work in a busy office, you might not want to schedule time during your work day to organize your office. Choose another time that won't be as demanding of your attention. If you have children, make sure they are taken care of so that you may give your full attention to our appointment. Conversely, if the child's room is to be organized, she needs to be there so that I may work with her directly.
Q.
Will you make me throw things away?
A. Nothing will be thrown away or donated without your permission. You will be involved in all the decision-making. I will help you through the thought process along the way. Should we find that we need to reduce the amount of belongings you have, I will be able to help you identify what is important and encourage you to let the rest go.
Q.
What about confidentiality?
A. All client information will be completely confidential, both business and personal. We will sign a confidentiality agreement prior to our appointment.
Q.
How long does it take?
A. Every client is different! Your level of disorganization is certainly a key factor. You may have just one area, or you may be suffering from chronic disorganization. A needs assessment will need to be performed in order to determine how long the process will take. This will only be an estimate, and the client plays a large part in how much time will be spent.
Q.
What hours do you work?
A. I understand that my clients have jobs and demanding schedules. I have flexible hours to accommodate my clients. I will come to you Monday through Saturday during the day or evening to suit your schedule.
Q.
Do I need to buy containers?
A. Don't go shopping just yet! Many of us go out and buy containers, cubby holders, labels, and shelves thinking these things will help us get organized. Resist the temptation! Containers are rarely the answer. You may not need them, or you may get the wrong size. More than likely you don't need to spend money on containers. If you do, we can take care of that when the time comes. You can do the shopping yourself, or I would be happy to do the shopping for you.
Q.
Do you install shelves?
A. If you need shelving, I can install it for you. Shelves can be perfect for garages, closets, pantries, storage rooms, anywhere you need extra shelf space. I will draw up the design for you, pick up and deliver the materials, install the shelving and finish up by organizing all your things beautifully on the shelves. Most of my clients don't need extra shelves, but sometimes it is the perfect solution for you!
Q.
What kind of payment do you accept?
A. Cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express are all cheerfully accepted.
Q.
Do you have gift certificates available?
A. Yes! Gift certificates make wonderful gifts for busy people or the person who has everything. How about the gift of a beautifully organized closet? garage? office? Birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, any occasion is great for organizing. Just make sure they WANT to be organized! If you've heard someone complain that they just wish they could get more organized, then a gift certificate from Amazing Transformations is the perfect gift for them.
